This page explains what happens to your information on harlanfenton.com: when you ask for the free chapter, when you buy, and when you simply visit. It is written to be read.

Who is responsible

Harlan Fenton is a brand operated by Ilai Spak, 353 Lexington Avenue, 4th Floor, Ste 505, New York, NY 10016, who decides how your information is used (the "controller", in European terms). Contact: contact@harlanfenton.com.

What we collect

When you ask for the free Kitchen chapter

  • Your email address, which you type into the form.
  • A short note of where you signed up (for example, the main page or a particular video), so we know which videos send people here.
  • The exact wording you agreed to when you signed up, and the date and time, so we can show what you asked to receive.

When you buy

  • Your name, email address, what you bought, the price, the date, and the order number. Whop, our payment processor, also collects your billing details (such as country and postal code) to take the payment and work out any sales tax.
  • Your card or bank details go to Whop, not to us. We never see or store them.

When you download

  • Which file was downloaded, when, and the country it came from, so we can keep download links from being shared and help you if a download fails.

When you write to us

  • Your email and whatever you write. If you send a method, a correction or a comment about the book, we keep it so we can check it. If you give us permission to quote you, we keep a record of that permission and how you'd like to be named.

When you open our emails

  • Like most email services, ours records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. We use this to see which letters are useful and to stop sending to addresses that never open anything.

When you visit the site

  • The standard technical records any website keeps, such as the time of a visit, the page, and your browser type, held by our hosting provider.
  • Analytics and cookies, as described under "Cookies and analytics" below.

We don't ask for anything else, and we never ask for your date of birth, health information or Social Security number.

What we use it for

  • To send the free chapter, and the letters you agreed to when you signed up: a method from the book every few days for two weeks, then a letter now and then, including offers for the book. People who signed up before October 2026, when the page promised one email when the book was ready, get only that one email unless they sign up again.
  • To deliver what you buy: your download link and a few short notes about using it, including an occasional offer.
  • To answer you, handle refunds, and keep records of purchases.
  • To understand which pages and videos are useful, and to improve the site and the book.
  • To keep the site and downloads secure.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't rent or pass your address to anyone for their own use.

For visitors in the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland, our legal bases are: your consent (for marketing emails), performing our contract with you (for purchases and delivery), and our legitimate interests (for security, record-keeping and understanding how the site is used, in ways that don't override your rights).

Who handles it for us

These companies process information only to run their service for us, under their own security and privacy terms:

  • Whop takes payments, sends your receipt, and keeps the record of your order.
  • Brevo stores the mailing list and sends our emails.
  • Neon hosts our database. We keep our own backup copy of the mailing list (including the consent wording and date) and of purchase records there, so they don't live in only one place.
  • Vercel hosts the website and the download pages.
  • Google (Google Workspace) hosts our email inbox, so messages you send to contact@harlanfenton.com are stored there.
  • Vercel Web Analytics counts visits and pages without cookies and without building a profile of you.

We don't use Google Analytics, the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel, or any advertising tags.

These providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where information about people in Europe or the UK is sent to the US, it is covered by the safeguards those providers offer (such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses).

Cookies and analytics

We use a few small cookies that the site needs to work, and nothing for advertising:

  • hf_src remembers which video sent you here, if you came from one of our short links, so we know which videos are useful (90 days).
  • hf_last remembers the most recent of those links, until you close the browser.
  • hf_lead remembers your email address, signed so it can't be altered, so the checkout can fill it in for you (1 year). It's set only after you ask for the free chapter.
  • Your "Larger text" choice is stored in your own browser, not sent to us.
  • To count which pages lead to sign-ups and purchases, the site sends us short notes such as "the order page was viewed", tied to a random number that lasts only while the tab is open. No cookie is used for this.

Visit statistics come from Vercel Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies. Because nothing here is used for advertising or tracking you across other sites, there is no cookie banner. You can clear this site's cookies in your browser at any time; the site will still work, and the checkout simply won't fill in your email.

How long we keep it

  • Mailing list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. After that, we keep only your address on a do-not-email list, so you aren't emailed again by mistake.
  • Purchases: as long as tax and accounting rules require, usually up to seven years.
  • Download records: up to 12 months.
  • Messages and permissions to quote: as long as needed to answer you, or until you withdraw a permission.

Your choices and rights

  • Unsubscribe at any time, from the link at the bottom of any email. Unsubscribing never affects your access to what you bought. You will still get emails about your own orders, such as a fresh download link you ask for.
  • See, correct, export or delete what we hold about you: write to contact@harlanfenton.com. We'll answer within 30 days. We may need to keep purchase records the law requires us to keep.
  • US state privacy rights: depending on your state (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others), you may have the right to know, correct, delete and get a copy of your information, and to opt out of targeted advertising. Write to us and we'll honor the request, whatever state you live in. We won't treat you differently for asking.
  • EU, EEA, UK and Swiss residents also have the right to object to or restrict how we use your information, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

Security

We keep access to your information to what is needed to run the site, use providers with sound security, and never store payment card details. No system is perfectly secure; if something ever went wrong that affected you, we would tell you.

Children

The site and products are for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and never from children under 13. If you think a child has given us their information, write to us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this page, the date at the top changes. If a change affects how we use information we already hold, we'll tell you by email before it applies.
